The last thing you feel like doing is dragging yourself to a gym to hop on a treadmill or to do a weights session. Let me stop you there!

The fitness industry is evolving with our lifestyle, there is SO much variety now on offer to suit your needs. You can only squeeze in 30 mins? Sure no problem, step into a HIIT class. Are you constantly feeling stressed? Why not give yoga a try. Do you need a real good challenge? Have you thought about trying CrossFit? The element of FUN should be at the heart of each workout because then working out becomes something you look forward to, instead of dread.

H.I.I.T has been a  popular fitness trend for years, especially amongst those with little free time during the week. It’s versatility means you can do this at home, in a studio, in your own gym, alone or with friends. You can mix and match various exercises, making every single day a new challenge.

Everyone has become addicted to wearable technology and the trend shows no signs of slowing down. Brands are constantly coming out with new ways to track performance, whether you are an athlete or not. Some fitness classes are also implementing this within sessions, combined with a heart rate monitor, you can learn to train in different heart rate zones. This is ideal for improving endurance for instance.

  1. The Humble Treadmill is Back

Believe it or not, but treadmill workouts are making a come back! ClassPass saw an 82% increase in classes that incorporated treadmills in 2018 compared to the year before. There are treadmill studios beginning to pop up in various locations and the idea is to create a workout similar to spinning but instead of biking, you are running!

The use of Virtual Reality is increasing in general, so why not make use of it in the fitness industry? “VR will hit the mainstream in 2019, as major gym chains such as Virgin Active build it into their offerings,” says Ward. “Eventually, this will allow clubs to offer personalised classes at all times of day.” VR is definitely one of the top fitness trends to watch out for!

We have moved away from your typical yoga class and now we have hot yoga, wine yoga, yoga retreats, yoga at home with Adrienne. The benefits of yoga have been proven time and time again and we strongly believe that this fitness trend won’t be disappearing anytime soon. There will always be a form of yoga that will suit you as a person and help achieve your goals.

Apps for this and that are popping up every single day! You want to learn how to run a 5km, get yourself a training programme via runtastic. You can take your app on holiday and business trips, making it a key fitness trend for 2019. It is allowing people to remain healthy and active in spite of their busy lives.

  1. Mindfulness

We are hearing this buzzword all the time now. At work, on the internet, in books, from our circle of friends. People are realising to what extent stress can impact their health and apps such as Calm are perfect for learning how to meditate. We have also seen an increase in meditation retreats for allowing people to really emerge themselves in the whole concept. We are yet to see if this is a long-lasting trend or just a fad!
